Brooklyn noise pop duo Sleigh Bells
will make a non-Christmas stop at the Mercury Ballroom on June 13, with Yvette
opening. Both members of this duo had performance experience before joining forces; guitarist Derek Miller
played in the hardcore band Poison The Well
and Alexis Krauss
sang in a teen pop group. Miller left the hardcore group to follow his own muse, writing songs while doing assorted day gigs, including waiting tables and tending bar. He was looking for a female vocalist when he met Krauss, who was pursuing a Rhodes Scholarship at the time. After a bit of consideration, they joined forces and started recording, getting the attention of various major media right away, including The New York Times
and Britain’s The Guardian
. They’ve released three studio albums, the last being 2013’s Bitter Rivals.
’s David Marchese
wrote this: “‘The first album was Derek’s,’ says Krauss. ‘This album has my R&B and pop influence. It’s more melodic.’ Her hands flutter as she speaks. ‘It’s also more personal. I was able to plug into the narrative.’
I ask them what the narrative is. Krauss says darkness and light. Miller says nothing and keeps playing.”
They’ll have road band backing them up. Tickets are $18.50 Ticket + $4.50 fees.
