Looking ahead to the weekend – which is the Friday practice over at ye Gannett Profit Center – we note that there will be plenty music to go hear. Saturday’s Festus concert at the Iroquois Amphitheatre is a winner, even with a $35 ticket price. Puckett’s preview piece that ran in Wednesday’s Velocity got a reprise in today’s C-J. In this case, I agree with him that Chris Knight is the not-so-sleeper performer. The Slaughters, Ky. native has a way with a story. The rest of the crew - Jason Isbell, Paul Thorn and Cross Canadian Ragweed – ain’t too slouchy, neither.

Meanwhile, at Jim Porter’s, there’s a concert tonight featuring the Legendary Drifters, which includes at least one guy who sang with the original group. The Gin Blossoms are playing a free show at 4th Street Live! on Saturday; Duke Robillard is at Stevie Ray’s on Sunday; there’s a Funk Fest 2010 at Expo 5 on Saturday; biZkit has a multi-band show at Phoenix Hill called biZkit’s Joone Bug Jam tonight; this month’s cover band, Cabin, is at Headliners tonight, the Moody Blues at Horseshoe Casino Saturday and on and on and on. Check the LMN calendar for the many additional shows available and remember, bars have air-conditioning and beer, just the thing for a steamy June weekend.

Oh, yes, your esteemed editor is the special guest at Sunday night’s Chop Shop at Zazoo’s. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much.
