The Musicians Emergency Resource Foundation (MERF) Viva La Diva 2011 benefit is set for Sunday, November 6 at Jim Porter’s. The show presents female performers from the Louisville/Kentucky area (with the occasional male backup). Headlining will be Lexington native Kelly Richey and her band. There will also be raffles, giving away a variety of donated items. The show kicks off at 6 p.m. and will be family-friendly until 10 p.m. A $7 donation at the door is requested of all attending. MERF Viva La Diva 2011

The Musician’s Emergency Resource Foundation (MERF) annual fundraiser, Viva La Diva 2011, is set for November 6 at Jim Porter’s. All headlining performers are female, although some might have male musicians backing them up. Artists interested in playing the show should contact MERF via the www.merfbenefit.org site.

The benefit for John Gage, held at the River Bend Winery on Sunday, November 14, raised in excess of $17,000, according to Janine Linder of Kentucky Homefront. Additional funds may yet add to the total. Anyone interested in donating to Gage should go to the MERF site at www.merfbenefit.org and click on ‘Donations’ in the top menu. Donations may be designated for Gage.

The date for the 2010 edition of MERF’s Viva La Diva! show has been set – November 21 at Jim Porter’s. Last year’s show was a smashing success, per the MERF crew and expectations are high for the next one. Lineup TBA.

Josh Garrett and the Bottomline will be the headliner for the “Booty-Shakin’ Blues Festival” (2010 version), co-sponsored by MERF and the Kentuckiana Blues Society, at New Albany’s Riverfront Amphitheatre on June 26. The festival, which will be party of New Albany’s Summer Concert Series, will feature a number of area bands. Festival hours will be 2p.m until 11 p.m., with music run from 3 p.m until 11 p.m. The complete lineup will be announced later, but the Jimmy Davis Band and Marilyn Kington and 2-Loose have already been confirmed. Tickets will be $10 / $2 for 6 and under. More information as it becomes available.

Greg Foresman gathered up a band of familiar Louisville musicians, including Michael Murphy, Bob Ramsey and Jeff McAllister among others, for the MERF Booty Shakin’ Blues Benefit at Stevie Ray’s on Sunday, July 19. By the time Foresman came on, the house was full.
