In a January 15 article in Business First, KFC Yum! Center manager Dennis Petrullo told the Louisville Arena Authority Board that attendance at concerts last year was down by about 40,000, although the number of events
22 was the same as the previous year. Going forward, Petrullo said, “the arena likely will schedule four to six sell-out shows, and the will “have to fill the void” with shows that draw around 9,000 attendees.”
In the same article, he noted that Katy Perry was set to return to the Center on August 16. Presumably, Perry will sell out the arena.
This could certainly be tacit acknowledgment that the Louisville market is over-saturated with entertainment, particularly major concerts. With the addition of the Mercury Ballroom, that problem could get worse for venues, although fans might appreciate the over-supply.
