Abbey Road On The River, which began its run as all-Beatles all the time festival, has begun the process of morphing into a Sixties-era festival, though with the Beatles still dominant in the mix. The event runs May 23-27 on the Belvedere, in the Galt House and also in the Muhammad Ali Center. Headliners this year include Leon Russell, Peter Noone of Herman’s Hermits and Peter Asher of Peter And Gordon fame, plus the usual lineup of Beatles cover bands, as well as some Louisville groups like The Johnny Doughnut Experience and several YPAS groups. The concert announcements just keep coming:
You might have guessed that C. Michael Stewart would go see Leon Russell at Headliners on Monday. He reviewed the show and posted some of his good pix at his Scene And Heard blog.
Well, Leon’s audience has gotten old, right along with him. Headliners is offering four tickets for the price of three.
Headliners announced a couple of interesting shows today – Leon Russell will appear on August 27 and the Chris Knight Band will play the Lexington Road club on September 6. Russell, of course, is a boomer favorite, having been in the business for fifty-plus years, both as a sideman and band leader. Chris Knight is Slaughters, Kentucky’s favorite son and a sharp-tongued songwriter of very memorable ballads. Really memorable ballads. He’s always got a fanbase from around the state that will show up to hear him, even in Louisville.
