This week’s ink-stained wretches have scribbled a bit more than usual:
J. L. Puckett has a feature piece in the C-J about Louisville native and jazz musician Don Braden, along with his Organix Trio, featuring Vanessa Rubin, scheduled to play a show in Bird Hall at the University of Louisville School of Music tonight. Tickets are $15.
Over at LEO, Peter Berkowitz writes about This World, the new record from Watter, and, along the way, how the band came to be. Of primary focus is former Slint band member Britt Walford, plus founders Tyler Trotter and Zak Riles and their connection to Tony Levin, former bassist for King Crimson. It’s an interesting read.
Berkowitz also has a piece on New Mother Nature, with former Louisvillian Axel Cooper. They’re playing at Zanzabar on Friday.

Jars Of Clay
Christian indie rock band Jars of Clay has been successful with their mix of rock and Christianity for going on twenty-plus years, sort of a case of “Christian rockers before Christian rockers were cool.” Well, after all, Adrian Belew of King Crimson produced two songs on their debut album, so they have rock chops; the band name came from 2 Corinthians 4:7. They have an extensive discography (eleven studio albums, plus two live albums, seven video albums and more) as well as a substantial collection of GMA Dove Awards and three Grammy Awards for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. They also have several BMI awards for “Most Performed Song” in their genre. Their latest ablum, Inland, was released in August of this year (Read Hollywood Reporter’s review here), so you’ll hear some new tunes as well as a selection of favorites from previous records when they play Headliners on December 12. John Mark McMillan will open. Tickets are $15/$35 VIP.
