There’s be a pair of legends dueling for your entertainment dollar on November 7. In the Yum! corner, there’s James Taylor, he luscious guitar, vocals and songwriting. In the Palace corner, country legend Loretta Lynn. Of course, there’s only little overlap in the actual audiences, so we’ll go with James Taylor for this blurb. He’s best known for recordings that earned him five Grammy Awards: 1971: Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male for “You’ve Got a Friend”; 1977: Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, for “Handy Man”; 1998: Best Pop Album, Hourglass; 2001: Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, “Don’t Let Me Be Lonely Tonight”; 2003: Best Country Collaboration With Vocals, “How’s the World Treating You” with Alison Krauss plus one in 2006: Grammy Award-sponsored MusiCares Person of the Year. Plus, of course, a whole stack of other awards, honorary and earned. Interestingly enough, only “You’ve Got A Friend” hit No. 1 on the Billboard Charts. He has sold over 100 million records, which is what matters to the industry. He’ll be at the KFC Yum! Center with his All-Star Band. It should be a hell of show. Tickets are $69 and $89.

Here’s a clip from a recent show:

Demi Lovato At KFC Yum!

“I’ve come to realize your career is all about the choices you make. Every single one matters. I was just trying out some new dance moves, for example, but I wanted to make sure they wouldn’t be too sexy for my younger fans, so I performed them for my younger sister and asked it they were too much. She said they were fine, so they stayed in. But if I had gone out there and gone too far, well that’s how careers melt down, don’t they?”” – Richard Ouzounian, The Star.com
One of the clearest signs about an artist turns up on a Google seach: is Perezhilton.com high on the returned list? If so, then you’ve got an LA/Hollywood celebrity-type artist, well teamed with publicists, a posse and assorted other hangers on, ready to feed the gossip machinery. In this case, that would be pop star, actress and “X-Factor” judge Demi Lovato, who is appearing at the KFC Yum! Center on October 15. Lovato has taken the Disney route to fame, having first found success with the television’s Barney & Friends and Camp Rock. She released her first album in 2008, which went gold; she then got her own TV series, Sonny With A Chance, and released Here We Go Again, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Some “personal issues” put her career on hold in 2010 (hence, PerezHilton), but not too long. She released Unbroken in 2011 and Demi in 2013, which she continues to promote on tour. There’s lots more to this busy young woman’s CV but suffice it to say, she’ll draw a whole lot of tweeners and teens when she hits the Yum! Center. Tickets range from $29.50, $45.00 to $62.50.

Fleetwood Mac To Play KFC Yum! Center

The KFC Yum! Center has announced that rock legends Fleetwood Mac’s “On With The Show” tour will stop in Louisville on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Tickets will go on sale October 20 at 10 a.m. From the Minneapolis Star Tribune, this comment about the tour” “The principal emotion during the nearly 2 1/2-hour performance was the joy of having keyboardist McVie back in this group… She brought high harmonies and several songs, including ‘Little Lies,’ ‘You Make Loving Fun’ and the closing ‘Songbird,’ back into the repertoire. Nicks hasn’t sounded this good since the early ‘90’s. What a rhythm machine and what an articulate emotional guitarist Buckingham is.”

The September 25 show at KRC Yum! Center will give country fans a bit of the “real” country that so many have been lamenting the loss of on the charts. That would be Dwight Yoakam, of course, who’s not the headliner - Eric Church is, with the Brothers Osborne the third at. Church is a rocker turned country rock singer, which is not too much of a turn these days. He’s touring in support of The Outsiders, his fifth studio album. A winner of several CMA and ACA Awards, he’s currently nominated for Album of The Year for The Outsiders and Song of the Year for “Give Me Back My Hometown.” The Brothers Osborne have a new, just-released EP, Brothers Osborne. Dwight Yoakam is touring in support of 3 Pears, so there’ll be plenty of merch. Tickets run $25 – $59.50 plus fees. UPDATE: Rolling Stone has a new interview with the Brothers Osborne here.

Tommy Emmanuel at the Bomhard

The weekend that begins on Thursday, September 25 looks to be one busy three night run, kicked off by a show in the Bomhard featuring the Australian guitar wizard Tommy Emmanuel plus a duo called Loren and Mark, Emmanuel has been coming to the area for some time now, made easier by the fact that he lives in Nashville these days. We have also noted innumerable times on this site that he is the sort of player to make other guitarists weep at their inadequecy by comparison, often vowing to break all their fingers and never pick up a guitar again. They still go see him anyway. It would be safe to say that Loren and Mark are in his general class, though not likely quite at his level. Or maybe they are. To find out will cost you $39.50.

Here’s his version of “Classical Gas”:
