Pop singer, producer and songwriter Bruno Mars grew up in a family of musicians in Honolulu, so he was, as he has said, “surrounded by it,” playing with his father’s band very early on. Following graduation from high school, he headed for Los Angeles, where he has found his niche in the current commercial pop market, writing songs and hooks for Alexandra Burke, Travie McCoy, Adam Levine, Brandy, Sean Kingston, Flo Rida and more. His debut solo album, Doo-Wops & Hooligans, yielded two hits, “Just The Way You Are” and “Grenade,” placing his marker as an artist to be watched. He followed it up with Unorthodox Jukebox, which has also proven to be a hit. He’ll be doing songs from both albums at the Yum! Center on August 18, and, if reviews are to be believed, puts on a fantastic show. Fitz and The Trantrums will open. Tickets range from $39.50 to $89.50.
