Cherokee rapper Yelawolf will perform at the Mercury Ballroom on December 7, in advance of the release of his second album on Eminem’s Shady Records, Love Story, which has been in the works since 2012. Although his earliest success was as a contract artist painting murals, he subsequently took up the microphone to rap, releasing a couple of mixtapes, which went generally unnoticed, other than getting him some interest from a label. He wound up on Eminem’s label and was involved in a number of collaborations, including with Ed Sheeran, Travis Barker of Blink-182 and Eminem. His albums to this point are Trunk Muzik 0-60, Radioactive and Psycho White, which will provide some of the material for the show, plus whatever he’s trying out for the new record. Tickets to the show are $20.

Rapper Hoodie Allen at Mercury Ballroom For Halloween

Concerts, LMNEditor, Previews, Rap, Video  Comments Off on Rapper Hoodie Allen at Mercury Ballroom For Halloween

“[Hoodie] Allen is fresh off headlining the Grand Ballroom in New York’s Webster Hall, where he crowd surfed and got his hometown fans whipped into a frenzy with his breezy style, otherwise known as “frat-rap” for its resonance with college-aged students.” – Jspace.com
Yer hip-hop show for Halloween night could be down at the Mercury Ballroom, when Jewish Hoodie Allen stops in, bringing his Hoodie Mob fans along with him on his People Keep Talking tour. Hoodie only has one full-length studio album, People Keep Talking, released earlier this month, as well as three EPs, available digitally, but he has toured a lot over the last couple of years. As this is the first time he has been in the Derby City, how much his “frat-rap” will draw is open to question. Tickets aren’t cheap at $29.50 Ticket + $5.75 Fees / $35.25.

Matisyahu, Radical Something, Headliners Music Hall, September 29

“a soul-shaking brand of dancehall reggae, a show that captures both the jam band vibe of Phish and the ska-punk of Sublime” – Kevin Pang, Chicago Tribune
Pegging Matisyahu to a specific genre of music has proven to be a fool’s errand over the course the artist’s career. Beginning as a rapper, then a Chassidic rapper, then a Chassidic reggae star with a beard, then he lost the beard and worked his way into some rock. Now it’s apparently a mix of all his influences, which could be a little strange. His religious life has evolved right along with his music (or vice versa). Whatever it is now, he’s going to do it at Headliners on September 29, as part of his promotional tour for his latest CD, Akeda. California’s Radical Something will open. At Headliners Music Hall on September 29, tickets are $25 adv/$28 Dos.
