Lecrae Raps The Gospel at the Palace

Christian, Concerts, LMNEditor, Previews, Urban, Video  Comments Off on Lecrae Raps The Gospel at the Palace
Oct 312014

The Houston-born Christian rapper Lecrae brings Andy Mineo and DJ Promote into the Louisville Palace with him on November 1, offering up a solid evening of Christian and Gospel music, with a strong emphasis on redemption, given that Lecrae had the kind of background that an escape from is certainly redemption. He has earned a large stack of awards of all sorts, including a couple of Grammy Awards, and is out promoting his latest album, Anomoly. Tickets to the show were $25 to $100, but you’ll have to get them somewhere else, as the show is sold out.

Here’s the new video for “All I Need Is You”:

Relient K Cruises Into Mercury Ballroom

Christian, Concerts, LMNEditor, Video  Comments Off on Relient K Cruises Into Mercury Ballroom
Oct 272014

Relient K has somehow manged to straddle the rather wide gap between Christian punk rock and the secular version, which is no mean feat, considering that the number of artists that have managed that trick is in the very low digits. They have done this without giving up fans – or chart action – on either side of the divide, with three of their last four albums hitting No. 1 on the Christian chart while peaking fairly high (15, 6, 15) on Billboard’s Top 200. Of course, like most of the rest of the industry, CD sales are down, with their last Gold (500,000 sales) record coming in 2004. They’re currently on tour with what amounts to a 10th Anniversary Tour for their best-selling Mmhmm album. For this tour, they will be rejoined by drummer Dave Douglas. The tour stops at the Mercury Ballroom on October 30, with From Indian Lakes and Blondfire opening. Tickets are $18.50 adv/ $23 Dos.

Relient K doesn’t have many videos but here’s a Nada Surf cover “Inside Of Love”:

MetalCore Masters For Today Head Six-Band Show At Vernon Club

Christian, Club Show, hardcore, Heavy Metal, LMNEditor, Previews, Video  Comments Off on MetalCore Masters For Today Head Six-Band Show At Vernon Club
Sep 092014

“here are hundreds of Christian bands currently assaulting America’s clubland with the brutal sounds of metalcore. But almost certainly there’s only one band, Iowa’s For Today, whose frontman has released a spoken word worship album on which he addresses such issues as pornography, fasting, prophecy and depression. For Today are clearly not our average metalcore band and Mattie Montgomery is not your average hardcore growler.” – Tony Cummings, CrossRhythms.uk
There’s a Terry Harper show at The Vernon Club on September 13, featuring For Today, The Color Morale, Palisades, O’Kingdom, When Hearts Fail and The Pale Sky, which is a mix of alt rock, pop, Christian metalcore and a side of heavy metal from The Pale Sky. For Today has scored a number of interesting tours since their start back in 2005,while recording five albums, of which their 2012 release on Razor & Tie, Immortal, hit No. 1 on both the US Hard Rock and US Christian charts. Their newest, 2014’s Fight The Silence, peaked at No. 2 on those charts as well. Unlike many bands which lose members to drugs and car crashes, For Today’s personnel turnovers have resulted from members leaving to do missionary work or to enroll in Bible college, the latter a result of an imprudent Twitter comment about homosexuals. The upshot: look for some preaching amidst the metal. Tickets are $15.

Here’s “Molotov” from Fight The Silence:

Christian, Concerts, LMNEditor, Previews, Rock, Video  Comments Off on MercyMe To Play A Free Show At Cardinal Stadium
Aug 212014

“Since their debut in 2001, GRAMMY®-nominated, American Music Award and multiple Dove Award winners MercyMe have sold over 6 million units in CD and DVD sales, garnered 25 No. 1 multi-format Christian radio singles and four consecutive mainstream radio hits with “I Can Only Imagine,” (No. 4 AC/Top 25 on Top 40/Hot AC), “Here With Me” (No. 4 AC), “Homesick” (Top 10 AC), and “So Long Self.” In 2009, Billboard named MercyMe’s “Word Of God Speak” the No. 1 Song of The Decade and the group the No. 1 Christian Songs Artist of the Decade, with an additional No. 1 as the Christian AC Song Artist of The Decade as one of the industry’s most notable talents. MercyMe made history as “I Can Only Imagine” surpassed 1 million digital downloads, making it the first song in Christian music to go platinum in the digital domain. MercyMe has sold out venues across the nation, including Radio City Music Hall, and has appeared on The Tonight Show, CNN, Fox New Channel’s Fox & Friends, ABC News, CBS This Morning and in the pages of Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, USA Today, Billboard and more.” – jesusfreakhideout.com
August 24 is a Sunday and at the 2014 Kentucky State Fair, that means it’s time for a free Christian music concert. On the bill for this show is Greenville, Texas Crhistian rock band MercyMe, a band with a long string of hits on the Christian music charts and awards to match, including having the Billboard’s No. 1 No. 1 Christian song of the Decade: “Word of God Speak.” For this show, they have a brand-new record, Welcome To The New,” which was released in April. The show is at Cardinal Stadium and it’s free, of course.
