Taking a little time off from loafing and playing, here are a few items you might have missed:
WFPK’s Kyle Meredith got a nice front-page-of-the-Features-section write-up by J. L. Puckett about his promotion to WFPK music director. Maybe the music will get more interesting again.
Niki King did a mid-festival plug on the Bluegrass Festival at the Water Tower, which continues today. Nothing like beautiful weather to get the crowds out.
In the classical music field, Andrew Adler berates the Detroit Orchestra for slashing players’ salaries by nearly 30%. Adler also gave Sarah Chang a left-handed compliment for her performance with the LO on Friday night. I suppose he needed to mitigate his otherwise effusive praise.
Elsewhere, everybody is having a “phew” Labor Day celebration, mostly to get ready for the avalanche of vile, nasty, decitful and dishonest political ads which we must deal with over the next two months.
