Tons of music going on this weekend and I do mean tons, some of it free. The free stuff: the all-new Germantown Blues Festival, going on Friday and Saturday. (The C-J has a write-up). Check’s, The Zeppelin Cafe and the Kentuckiana Blues Society put it together and the Musicians Emergency Resource Foundation (MERF) gets some of the rewards – a portion of the beer money goes to MERF.

If you’d rather sit in air-conditioned comfort, Janiva Magness is over at the Vernon Club. She has a stack of blues awards, so that should be quite the show.
The female artists are all over this weekend, including Magness, of course. At 4th St. Live!, Emily West is the headliner for the Friday night edition of Hot Country Nights. It’s a free show, too.
Sophie B. Hawkins(“Damn, I Wish I Was Your Lover”) is at Jim Porter’s. She’s on a mission to help out with the Gulf cleanup. The C-J has a story, too.,
Saturday, check out the Kentucky Homefront show, featuring my bluesgrass favs Storefront Congregation, the Next Exit Bluegrass Band, young pianist Alexandra Bolus and singer-songwriter (and LMN cover artist for August) Jenny Madison.
Plus, of course, the usual stack of Louisville musicians and others playing around town for your listening and dancing pleasure.
